Evaluating the paradox of strength and ductility in ultrafine-grained oxygen-free copper processed by ECAP at room temperature

چکیده
Oxygen-free copper of >99.95% purity was processed by equal-channel angular pressing at room temperature (RT) for up to 24 passes and then pulled failure RT using strain rates from 10?4 10?2 s?1. The results show that the microstrain increases with lower numbers but decreases between 16 passes. Similar trends were found also dislocation density, Vickers microhardness values measured yield stresses in tensile testing. X-ray diffraction measurements showed a minor increase crystallite size high imposed processing through These demonstrate occurrence dynamic recovery highest strain. In testing rate 10?3 s?1 gave stress ~391 MPa an elongation 52% which is consistent earlier report Cu much higher not same purity.

Mechanical Properties and Microstructure Development of Ultrafine-grained Cu Processed by ECAP
Technical purity Cu (99.95 wt%) polycrystals have been processed at room temperature by equal channel angular pressing. The results of mechanical tests and the microstructure characterization by various experimental techniques are presented. The yield stress as well as the strength were shown to increase with increasing strain and exceed the respective values of a coarse-grained material. The m...
متن کاملMicrostructure of Ultrafine- Grained Metals after Ecap
This paper was aimed at verification of functionality of the ECAP technology at extrusion of the copper, alluminium alloys and steel. Experiments were made on equipment, which is demonstrated in the Fig 1. Deformation forces were measured during extrusion, resistance to deformation was calculated and deformation speed was determined approximately. Analysis of structure was made with use of ligh...
متن کاملParadox of strength and ductility in metals processed by severe plastic deformation
It is well known that plastic deformation induced by conventional forming methods such as rolling, drawing or extrusion can significantly increase the strength of metals However, this increase is usually accompanied by a loss of ductility. For example, Fig. 1 shows that with increasing plastic deformation, the yield strength of Cu and Al monotonically increases while their elongation to failure...
متن کاملMicrostructures and mechanical properties of ultrafine grained 7075 Al alloy processed by ECAP and their evolutions during annealing
Microstructures and mechanical properties of equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) processed and naturally aged ultrafine grained (UFG) and coarse grained (CG) 7075 Al alloys as well as their evolutions during annealing were investigated. After the same natural aging, the tensile yield strength, ultimate strength, and microhardness of the UFG samples were 103%, 35%, and 48% higher, respectively...
متن کاملMICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE ULTRAFINE-GRAINED COPPER TUBE PRODUCED BY SEVERE PLASTIC DEFORMATION
In this paper, cyclic flaring and sinking (CFS) as a new severe plastic deformation (SPD) method was employed to produce the ultrafine grain (UFG) copper tubes. The extra friction has eliminated in the CFS method that provided the possibility for production of longer UFG tubes compared to the other SPD methods. This process was done periodically to apply more strain and consequently finer grain...
